How a Nutritionist Can Help You Achieve Your Health Goals
Unlike one-size-fits-all approaches found in popular diet plans, a registered dietitian provides tailored guidance to help you reach your unique health goals. We focus on creating sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes.
Here are some ways that the nutritionists at My Fruitful Body are different from the rest:
Personalized Nutrition Plans
A nutritionist will work with you to develop a meal plan that aligns with your preferences, lifestyle, and medical needs. This individualized approach ensures you're getting the nutrients your body requires while enjoying the foods you love.
One thing I always tell people who come to me seeking a cookie-cutter meal plan is I’ll do it, but it’s not sustainable for the long term. I teach people the skills they need to research recipes they enjoy, create grocery lists, make a plan, and execute that plan. What I’ve seen in private practice, is that the number one key to success is having a plan—those who lack a plan usually do not achieve their goals.
Behavior Modification
We understand that making lasting changes often involves addressing underlying behaviors and habits. A nutritionist can help you identify triggers for unhealthy eating and develop strategies to overcome them. By focusing on mindset shifts and gradual improvements, you'll be more likely to achieve long-term success.
I’d say the easiest part of nutritional counseling is the food piece, the hardest part to overcome is the mental piece. The thoughts and belief systems formed around food. If we negate that huge piece of someone's journey to healing their relationship with food, they will stay on a constant cycle of trying new things and failing for not addressing the underlying reasons they struggle with food.
This is something taught in sessions at My Fruitful Body. I will regularly ask questions that probe and encourage a patient to go deeper to understand their behaviors and the “why” behind their choices. For someone who is a binge eater, it could be looking into the emotions they are feeling during a binge. For someone who restricts, it could be the lack of control they feel in other areas of their lives that forces them to withhold food. We have to go deeper in order to heal and progress forward.
Medical Nutrition Therapy
If you have specific medical conditions, a registered dietitian can provide tailored nutrition recommendations to manage your symptoms and improve your overall health. We collaborate with your healthcare team to ensure optimal care.
Not to toot my own horn, but dietitians are amazing! One of main reasons I started my private practice was to spend more time with my patients and provide individualized care. I can’t tell you how many patients have come to me with some cookie cutter instructions to follow from another provider or were given a health diagnosis and not told what to do nutritionally. This is where education comes into play. I love to do screen shares with patients and teach them what to eat not only to thrive but to lower lab values back to normal range or feel more energy or whatever is making them feel hopeless and like they will be taking medications forever.
I have had numerous testimonies of patients coming off of meds by changing their diet and eating habits and that is a huge win for everyone.
Accountability and Support
Having a nutrition professional in your corner can provide the motivation and support you need to stay on track. Regular check-ins and progress monitoring help you stay accountable and make necessary adjustments to your plan.
As one patient shared, while technology offers numerous tools for meal planning and nutrition information, the value of human connection and accountability in achieving health goals cannot be replaced. A registered dietitian provides personalized guidance, support, and encouragement, fostering lasting behavior changes.
Remember, sustainable weight loss and improved health are a journey, not a destination. A registered dietitian can be your trusted guide, helping you navigate the complexities of nutrition and make informed choices.
